Application Update Q&A

The following questions are related to updating applications in the Samsung Apps TV Seller Office.

You can submit a new version when you add application features or resolve defects. When a new version is ready, upload the updated application package and request a new release.

For more information, see the Uploading Application Package guide and the Requesting New Release guide.

Selecting "Mandatory update" does not automatically update the TV user's application to the new version.

When a new version is released, TV users will be informed that the version has been updated when they run the application. TV users can read the update description seller wrote and then choose "Update Now" to proceed with the update or choose "Cancel" to reject the update.

If a version with the "Mandatory Update" attribute is released, the application will not be able to run if the user refuses to update. The application will only run if the user updates to a new version.

This option restricts the user's choice of updates and can potentially result in the loss of existing users, so write "What's New in this version" to fully explain why the version needs to be updated, and use the "Mandatory update" option only if necessary (for example, if a critical issue occurs when the application is not updated).

However, the actual application of "Mandatory update" may only take place in some countries, depending on country-specific regulatory policies.

When a new version is released, TV users will be informed that the version has been updated when they run the application. TV users can read the update description seller wrote and then choose "Update Now" to proceed with the update or choose "Later" to reject the update.

If a version with the "Optional update" attribute is released, the user can still run the application and use it even if the user refuses to update it.

If a user checks "Don't ask again for this version", the update notification for this version will no longer appear to that user. When another new version is updated, they will see an update notification for that version.

After you have registered an application, you can modify its basic information, such as the title, icon, description, and screenshots.

To modify the application information, select an applications and click the menu of the information you want to modify, such as "App Images", "Service Info", "Title/Description", and "Service Country/Region". Then modify the information as needed.

After the application has been submitted, the application service country can only be modified by agreement with your Content Manager.

For more information, see Entering Application Information.

A missing author certificate file cannot be recovered. Consequently, you cannot update any applications that were signed with it.

To update those applications, you must create a new certificate and register the applications again with new application names and IDs.

Make sure you have backups of your certificates and store them in a safe place.

#author certificate #certificate #lost certificate #registration #signature

Make sure your updated application package is signed with the same author certificate used to register the application.

If you have lost the original author certificate, you cannot update the application. You must register the application with a new application name and ID.

Upload the updated application package first and request a new release. You can select new model groups when you request a release to TV apps store.

For more information, see the Uploading Application Package guide and the Requesting New Release guide.

Check that the application version has been published for the applicable TV model groups.

If users do not see the new application version, ask them to trigger the automatic update process on the TV:

  1. Make sure the automatic updates TV setting is switched on.
  2. Power cycle the TV (disconnect and reconnect the power source).
  3. Switch the TV on and wait for any application updates to install.

If the problem is still not resolved, users must uninstall and reinstall the application.

No. You cannot reuse an application name and ID for a new application, since the application name and ID are uniquely associated with a package ID. To register a new application, you must create a new application name and ID.

#app id #application id #app name #application name #package id #reuse #terminate

No. You cannot change the application package ID because the application name and ID are uniquely associated with it.
However, you can create the application package with a new package ID, and register it with a new application name and ID.

To separate the Tizen version from the Samsung Legacy Platform version:

  1. Register the Tizen version with a new application name and ID.
  2. When the application passes certification, request hiding the old application from the Tizen model groups, by creating a "1:1 Q&A" ticket.
The application with the old application ID is now available only on TVs running Samsung Legacy Platform.
  3. Tell your Tizen users to download the new Tizen application version.

To update your Samsung Legacy Platform application by migrating it to Tizen, you must increment the major version number of your application. For example: 2.111 → 3.0.0 or 20.0.0 (O) / 2.111.1 or 2.1.2 or 2.2.0 (X)

When an application is suspended or terminated, it is dropped from Samsung Apps TV:

  • A suspended application is no longer available on Samsung Apps TV, but TVs with the application installed can still use it. You can suspend a published application and restore it at any time through the Seller Office.
  • A terminated application is removed from Samsung Apps TV and uninstalled from TVs that have it. To terminate an application, you must receive approval from your local Content Manager and submit a termination request. Termination requests take 2 to 3 days to process and terminated applications cannot be restored. After an application is terminated, it can be deleted, which removes it from your Seller Office account.

For more information on suspending and terminating applications, see the Changing Application Status guide.

  • Application version to remove
  • Model groups from which to hide the application version

If you receive a notification that your application is about to be terminated, but you want to keep your application on Samsung Apps TV, contact the Seller Office.
